Have you ever found yourself constantly forgetting to water your plants, or wanting the beauty of plants in your home but just never having that push to keep them healthy? Well SparkFun’s recent product will help anyone without the dedication to watering plants on their own.

One may think that it is very sad how much technology is becoming involved with the preservation of nature in a home setting, but it is also undeniably interesting, and this new Botanicalls Kit is at the forefront of movement. The Botanicalls Kit allows you to literally hook your plant up to the internet and gives it the power to warn you when it is becoming too dry. The best part? You can program it to Tweet this warning to you.

Imagine you are sitting at home on the internet, maybe perusing through Twitter, and you get a notification telling you your plant has just tweeted you. A pretty cool concept, right? It comes pre-programmed, so you do have the ability to set the plant to tell you whatever you want it to.

The only problem is that you have to do a lot yourself in order to set this up. The items required in order to get set up include a soldering iron, solder, needle nose pliers, ethernet cable, small snips, flat-head screwdriver, masking tape, and a power outlet nearby; not to mention, you’ll need a lot of patience as well.

The Botanicalls Kit is going for about $100 per device, and it is said that each purchase will help fund further research in plant technologies. Get your hands on one now, because not only is it spreading across the web, but the invention has gotten the attention of museums like the Museum of Modern Art.

We’re very excited to see what comes next with technologies like this..
